About Dumenil

The house of Duménil was founded in 1874 by Elie and Cécile Duménil. Today, the great-granddaughter of the founders, Frédérique Poret-Rebeyrolle, presides over the house with her husband Hugues Poret. Her father taught her the respect for the traditions of the Champagne region: know-how and love for the terroir. She maintains the search for perfection and truth which has always been a strong guiding principle for the Duménil family.

Both coming from winemakers’ families, Frédérique and Hugues deeply love the earth and the job handed down to them by their ancestors. Hugues oversees the vineyards and cellar work, with the support of 4 wine workers. Frédérique, assisted by her mother, Mrs Rebeyrolle and Audrey Cauet, oversees the marketing but also part of the winemaking process. 

They have a stunning new visitors' reception and tasting facility next to their cellar and production facilities in the village of Sacy. A definite must-visit if ever in the region. The family owns 8 hectares of vines divided up into 45 parcels in 3 Premier Cru villages: Chigny-les-Roses, Ludes and Rilly-la-Montagne. Some of the plantings are more than 30 years old, offering very low yields but wonderful depth and complexity, to the ‘Vieille Vigne’ blends. All the vineyards are managed with sustainable viticultural techniques, aiming to limit interventions; natural products are used in order to avoid systemic treatments, and greater attention is paid to the vines’ specific needs regarding disease prevention.
