The Special Club releases from Hebrart are always standouts. Regardless of vintage conditions Jean-Paul always delivers. This could be due to his philosophy in making wines, seeking wines of balance and precision as opposed to showy and over the top. They seduce and tease in the glass, then gradually open and reveal so much more! The selection of fruit is always paramount and the drawing of fruit from the best sites in the premier and grand crus of Ay, Mareuil-sur-Ay, Chouilly and Oiry is impeccable.
The average vine age is 45 years and the old vine material gives an added dimension of depth of complexity. Tightly coiled and youthful at present, it gives great pleasure currently but this will evolve into a classic given five years or more. (That is on the huge assumption that you can resist opening beforehand!)
Hebrart's American distributor,Thierry Theise had a simple adage which I think sums it up perfectly " Marc Hébrart may not be the “best” grower in Champagne, but no one is better."
