A remarkable expression of place. Whereas most champagnes are blends of multiple vineyards and villages this prestige cuvee is sourced from one outstanding vineyard in the premier cru of Chigny-les-Roses. Planted back in 1969 'Les Pecherines' with it's unique aspect, elevation and sub-soil is the jewel in Dumenil's crown. Due to the old, low-yielding vines the fruit produced exudes incredible aromatic richness on the nose overlaying a structured, complex palate. Due to the underlying seam of pure chalk the blend is predominantly Chardonnay (80%) with 20% Pinot Noir giving backbone and depth. On the nose exotic fruits, toast, vanilla bean and brioche notes which follow on to a full generous palate with refreshing mineral acidity on the finish.
Previously named Cuvée Prestige Vieilles Vignes and now renamed in recognition of the vineyard, Les Pêcherines, because peaches were once grown here. Vines of more than 50 years of age infuse character and power unusual for Chigny-les-Roses, infused with outstanding depth and complexity that spans white peach, fig, even hinting at tropical notes of mango. Chardonnay is Duménil’s unexpected strong suit, and here it reaches its finest expression, holding line and length of outstanding confidence. Five years on lees has built layers of nougat, vanilla and honey that mesh seamlessly with gentle acidity and a soft finish that concludes just a little too sweet - 93pts Tyson Stelzer 'Champagne Guide 2020-2021'
